Punk Rock was not a Home Wrecker for me

“Most of the time, my girlfriends and I got into these clubs for free and were able to get ourselves backstage without being escorted out. We were not groupies, just followers.”

When I was a teenager I was very involved in the punk rock scene in Hollywood. While I was at these clubs, I felt free for the first time in my life. I was yearning for some individuality which I found amongst all these colorful people. I can’t remember a time when I have had as much fun. When I was out in the world like that everything felt fresh and exciting. It was a great social outlet and I loved discovering the music. I felt so lucky to have the opportunity to hear new music from successful bands before they got their record deals. Not only was it always an adventure being out and about but I think it was a learning experience meeting all these different kinds of characters. For many people “the scene” as we called it could have been a real Home Wrecker because many people got carried away with drugs and alcohol abuse. For me, being out at these clubs I didn’t care what people thought of me and I didn’t worry about having to be like everyone else.
