Jessica Kong, author of the Sea-anan Saga!

I am pleased to share my blog with author Jessica Kong. I do plan to interview Jessica but in the meantime, please get to know this charming, bright, and wildly talented young woman.

Miss Kong’s Sea-anan Saga has two books available thus far. A Lost Kitten is the first book in the trilogy.

“A titillating opening to a space-opera romance series…given the number of John’s siblings, the Sea-anan saga has the potential to keep readers entertained for several installments.” —Kirkus Reviews

Seacat John McCall labels the attack on the Sea-anan Empire as a nightmare. He escapes the enemy’s invasion, only to find himself stranded on a distant planet called Surreal. Tormented by thoughts of his family being massacred or captured by the enemy, he focuses on returning to aid them until he experiences a mind-boggling kiss that can only come from the one he is meant to share his life with. To ease the terror he feels for his family, John seeks the identity of his secret admirer. He quickly learns the true meaning of nightmare when he discovers his soul mate is of “the mist.”

Jasira Eversole is drawn to the powerfully built outlander sitting at the king’s table. Unable to resist the need to see him again, she enters the warrior’s room while he sleeps. John’s rugged good looks and chiseled body compel Jasira to reach out and touch him. Being of the mist, Jasira knows she will not be able to feel John, but she cannot resist his pull. The richness of John’s hair, the firmness of his muscles, and the clean scent of his skin all take Jasira off guard. She swiftly realizes John is her intended mate. Now, Jasira must somehow convince the young warrior that they are two halves of one soul without chasing him off Surreal, leaving her to a lonely existence as mist.

A Forgotten Kitten (Sea-anan Saga)
Many readers enjoy Star Wars-esque stories of conflict on faraway planets, while other readers tend to stick to epic romances. Few authors have managed to combine the two genres in such a seamless way as Jessica A. Kong has in her Sea-anan Saga. She has created a highly complex story with fully developed characters, and the themes explored here are inarguably adult, yet the reading level required is no more than eighth grade. A Forgotten Kitten zips along at just the right pace, allowing the reader to digest the complexity of the plot and interrelation between the characters without having to think too hard. The story revolves around Sev, a young, handsome prince and member of a royal family who rises to become king of the Oceanan race. Sev is raised in the midst of a vicious family feud, but all seems worth it when his adoptive aunt gives birth to a beautiful little girl whom Sev falls instantly and irrevocably in love with. But when Sev’s planet collides with its own sun and collapses, he must bear the loss of his entire family, including his love as well as any memory of her. Areo, the heroine of the story, is that little girl that Sev fell for during his childhood. She is a human-feline hybrid who has grown to hate the royal family that her soul mate hails from. She undergoes a destructive event and space travel episode similar to Sev’s, and it is not too long before she has settled her new planet and with her fellow half-bloods, created a strong, thriving society. When she is brutally attacked by Daehog, everyone in her empire is scattered throughout the universe. Where does she land but the planet that Sev is currently occupying. What follows is a continually building conflict interlaced with one of the most fervently passionate love stories seen in these kinds of novels. Kong chooses not just to write about space travel, or war, or love, or family, or even racism; instead, she chooses to combine all of these classic literary themes into one amazing story. The result is a mysterious and ultimately deeply satisfying story that only leads to the craving for more from this gifted and astoundingly creative writer. Reading should always be enjoyable, especially when reading escapist literature, and Kong has remembered this and accomplished it without sacrificing plot or characterization. The task of any science fiction writer is to take alien, unbelievable concepts and present them in a way that convinces the reader they are plausible in reality, and Kong has certainly hit the mark with her second novel in this delightfully mystifying series.
Bio
Jessica A. Kong is an avid reader of all things fantasy, futuristic, and paranormal. When she is not reading or writing, she enjoys puzzles, arts and crafts, crocheting, horror movies, and video games. She created the Sea-anan Saga out of inspiration provided by her love for movies like Star Wars and Deep Space Nine, along with an avid appreciation of romance novels. She makes her home in Somerset, New Jersey, with her loving husband of twenty-one years and their teenaged triplets.

The Song of Anita and Ben... Guest post by Uvi Poznansky

Have you ever listened, I mean, really listened to the lyrics of 'Twinkle, twinkle'? The words can truly take on different meanings, which is something I explored in moments of despair and moments of hope in my novel.

When Ben goes to Sunrise Home to visit his mother, who has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, he wonders about her. Can he reach her, can he evoke some memory in her mind? Her body is intact, but is it now merely an empty shell? He knows not what she has become, who she is... In the background, an old woman's voice can be heard, croaking a lullaby. And somehow, the words take on a meaning of a heart-wrenching farewell:

"Then, to the sound of the thin, painful voice in the distance, breathing the words, Though I know not... What you are... Twinkle, twinkle... Little star, I glance at my mother.
I wonder if what I am going to say about this or that photograph will make any difference, because now I am starting to lose heart. I doubt we can ever find a way—be it a way back, or a way forward—to connect to each other.
The time I remember is no more than a wrinkle for her."

In another scene, Anita raises her eyes to the musical animal mobile, which she has hung up overhead, for her baby. She sings the words as she crosses her hands around her body, embracing him. Expecting new life, the lullaby takes on a meaning of hope:

"For now, I mean, until I get a cradle for my baby, it’s hung up in the bedroom window, right in the center, where the blinds meet.
So at night, when I feel sad, or tired, or just sleepy, I pull out the little string to wind the thing up, which makes the animals go fly—fly like a dream—so slowly around your head.
And at the same time, it brings out a sweet lullaby, chiming, Twinkle, twinkle, little star... How I wonder what you are...
I stand here, by the window under the mobile. I touch the glass between one blind and another, and watch them animals, mirrored. They come in like ghosts, one after another, right up to the surface, swing around, and fly back out, into the dark. Then I gaze at them stars up there, so far beyond, and ask myself if they’re real—or am I, again, misreading some reflection."

The subject of motherhood is near and dear to my heart, and I express it in my writing and in my art, as you can see here:

Master Koda Select Publishing's Rebbekah White!

Today I am thrilled to be highlighting the multi-talented and lovely Rebbekah White!

Many of you may not know her because she hides behind the scenes, but she is the genius who does all of the websites for MKSP and heads up our graphics team (http://www.masterkodaselectpublishing.com)

Rebbekah has been around the internet for eleven years. When she first came online she didn’t even know how to send an attachment in emails – now she is seriously one amazing webmaster and virtual assistant. You can find out more about all the wonderful stuff she does here at this link (http://www.advantagemarketingforyou.com)

Just to tease you a bit I will tell you this lady can customize and design wordpress websites, create marketing strategies for product launches, set up newsletters and format books all while dancing an Irish jig on a pool table. Her nifty graphics win awards, and her work ethic is beyond reproach. Does it sound like I love this woman? Yeah, well that’s because I do! Oh and if that’s not enough, she is a radio personality and owns Heal Yourself Talk Radio. http://www.healyourselftalk.com
She started the radio show about 9 years ago as a way to heal her own body, mind and spirit when she was hit with several life altering events happened one right after the other.

Here is what Rebbekah has to say about her journey of the last decade:

“Over the years I have grown in many ways both professionally and personally. I met Kim Mutch Emerson a few years ago, while networking on a popular website called Ryze. Over the years we have worked together on many projects. Last year Kim and I were talking and we both wanted to be able to help authors realize their dreams and become published. Yet we didn’t want our company to be a company without a heart. Both Kim and I love giving, and we love helping. Yet we both had different talents. We are a perfect fit! Kim loves to engage in people and be the mother hen. Kim’s talents in the marketing arena far outweigh mine as far as party planning, and making what seems to be so boring and hard, exciting and fun! I love being creative. I love doing graphics and bringing an author’s vision for their book cover to life. A cover they can be proud of. I also love helping those same authors learn how to brand their websites, and how to take over their websites with confidence.”
So there you have it - the quiet (yet marvelous) half of the small publisher with the big heart (Master Koda Select Publishing, LLC) and owner of Advantage Marketing For You, Rebbekah White.

FROM THE ABYSS by JOHN EMIL AUGUSTINE!!! NOW on AMAZON.COM

I am excited to share my blog  with one of my very favorite authors and one of my most loyal writer friends, John Emil Augustine. We were introduced sometime last year on Marsha Casper Cook’s blog radio show and I have been inspired by his sharp mind, kind heart, and warm spirit ever since.

His generosity has no bounds which I discovered early on in our relationship. I am grateful for the help he has offered me with my writing and for his ongoing support of my own work.

His heartfelt and inspiring book, “From The Abyss” is now available on Amazon.com.

Synopsis
24-year-old John Augustine is looking for a lasting, loving relationship and finds one hidden where he least expects it. Knowing that no relationship is perfect, he walks in with eyes wide open but is unable to see the future swirling with hell and heartache. Amidst the struggles of a new marriage, John begins to realize his wife is far different than the woman he thought he married. Her mental illness soon drags the new family past the point of no return. As a man, John struggles to be strong and tackle their problems single-handedly, though the marital foundation is eroding before his eyes. But once his wife files for divorce, he finds himself in a free-fall.

My review of From the Abyss

It's really refreshing to read a memoir this honest from a male's point of view. In this story his sex doesn't matter because you see HIM in all his rawness, insecurities and sufferings. It doesn't take long to get absorbed into this story.  It also doesn't take long to have the feeling that you know this guy. This guy could be your friend. He is familiar and you can't help being drawn to him. There are so many moments that I feel so emotional about as he is spilling his guts out on a silver platter. He does not seem to concern himself to how this makes him look to the world, he is just telling his story as he knows to be true. I have to admire his honesty and courage. What he has done here takes bravery. He just seems to be on a noble mission to share his side of the story in hopes it will touch someone or help them get out of the bad situation they may find themselves. This is a human tale told with such candidness that I am in awe of his character. There is no ego just one man setting the record straight. Recording a life that could have sunk or swam and it looks to me that he has sailed across the rocky seas and got himself further away from the abyss to a better life.

"Sometimes, I think I would like to go back and fix what I did; take the off-ramp. But you just never get to do that. Not really. Maybe you wouldn't want to. Because those signs keep showing up until you understand what is written. If not then, it would have hit me at another time. I saw the sign but didn't realize what it meant. And in fairness to me, there was no way I could have known. You can only really, truly see the future when it's in the past."

A great read whether you have been in a good relationship or a sick one. If you have lived long enough, there are things in this poignant memoir that you might just be able to relate to.
The story comes from a dark place but is told with optimism for the future. Are you searching for your own silver lining? There is without a doubt a better life around the corner. You just have to stay open to all and any possibilities.

When there is love in your heart, there is HOPE!
