The Ritual Mini-Series by Mark Barry

I always love sharing author Mark Barry's work. When I think brilliant, it is his work that I think of. Doesn't matter what genre he is writing, this man is gifted. I know a handful of people who have this kind of talent. Mark Barry is part of my elite list of authors that I admire in this way.

Today I want to show you some of his darker work. He has a collection of short stories that will grab your attention.  The Ritual mini-series is full of horror set in Southwell. Six buxom slices of horrible deaths, cruel murders, giant monsters, mad sex demons and senseless violence - all drenched in a giant cauldron of blood.

A horror thriller in six parts.

A beautiful mother and her reluctant, outlandish, relentlessly angry emo daughter from Dayton, Ohio, arrive in Wheatley Fields, a prosperous English Minster town. They have come to help a family member in a serious crisis.

Unbeknown to the two of them, they are being followed by acolytes of a mysterious pre-colonial Church who believe one of the women to be the reincarnation of their long dead spiritual leader. The Church take up residence in the town and set about creating the occult preconditions for the resurrection of their leader in a centuries old Ritual. And those preconditions are hellish.

One of the women is destined for the altar. A sacrificial altar.
And there seems to be nothing that either can do about it.

Volume 1: The scene is set.

Contains one chapter of sustained demonic violence. Not suitable for U-16s.

In Vol 2, Phillippa and Jennifer are drawn deeper into the subtle web enveloping the town. Jennifer gets a new psychotherapist. Phillippa develops feelings she shouldn’t do, being a married woman.
The town’s handsome new American vicar begins to cultivate a new flock with a fiendishly effective rite.
The Church decide to find out for certain which of the Angstrom’s is the Divine and, as a consequence, decide to eliminate a threat to their plans in the most terrifying fashion possible.
Oh. And Jennifer is befriended by a new cat.
His name is Lucifer.
Lucifer the Cat.

Contains violence and occasional sexual references and depictions. Not suitable for U-16s

Volume III of the Horror mini-series. See The Ritual: The Daughter of Satan for overview.

Phillippa – and the National Health Service – are extremely concerned about Lenny’s bite. Jennifer and Matt go cycling and meet a motley Metalhead and a mysterious woman in black near an abandoned mill in the woods who administers a warning Jennifer cannot get out of her head.

Now convinced there is something wrong in Wheatley Fields – and more strange and inexplicable events consume the town – the two decide to make their escape back to Dayton.
But there are people in the town who don’t like that idea at all.
No.
Not at all.

Contains violence, some sexual references/activity and an atmosphere of constant threat. Not suitable for U-16s

In Vol 4, Damon explains his past, a sad, tragic and violent one. Is he the murderous serial killer people in the town say he is? Or is he an innocent drama teacher accused for no other reason than they want to believe he is? His niece Jennifer is faced with a choice of whether to believe him or not in order to find her mum, now captured and in the hands of the evil church.
Sergeant Brophy, who has made his mind up about Damon, begins his campaign of terror fuelled by the Church’s inside information.
Jennifer, Matt and Damon hunt down Starkweather in his mystical prebend and come up against his protective demons, including - for Jennifer - two very unlikely old friends.

Meanwhile, the town of Wheatley Fields, so long a bystander, is now submerged deep into the hellish void of The Summoning.

The Ritual is suitable for over 16s and contains sexual scenes, demonic violence and an atmosphere of threat and dread

Bio

Mark Barry is the author of many works of fiction including the cult football hooligan novel, Ultra-Violence, the seriously-reviewed, dark and harrowing romance, Carla, and the feel-good thriller, Hollywood Shakedown.
He lives in the UK and has one son, Matthew, who, so far, shows no sign of following in his father's literary footsteps - though he does fanatically support Notts County (which is a much more important trait).
Mark is also the proprietor of Green Wizard Publishing, a company dedicated to publishing cutting-edge, innovative, and accessible fiction firmly based in reality.
The majority of his books are set in either Southwell ("Wheatley Fields") or Nottingham ("The City"). It is a proud boast that local people who have read his novels can follow the trail of the quirky characters they encounter inside the jacket covers.
